Il progetto è stato realizzato nella Provincia di Padova, dove gli interventi formativi stanno diventando sempre più assidui e la richiesta di aggiornamento è tale che ormai da tempo si può parlare di formazione continua anche nell’ambito della PMI. Questo dato ha portato a riflettere sull’opportunità di ideare percorsi formativi ad hoc per una realtà con specifiche caratteristiche non sempre conciliabili con quelle della grande industria. Da un’indagine effettuata da Synthesis nel settembre 2002 è emerso che la maggior parte delle aziende della zona industriale di Padova ha valutato positivamente la formazione/aggiornamento in materia di lingue straniere, dimostrandosi tuttavia scettica nei confronti degli attuali metodi di insegnamento e auspicando tecniche innovative e maggiormente efficaci. Per queste ragioni Synthesis ha voluto ideare un progetto ad hoc che coinvolgesse gli allievi con metodologie attive facilitando il loro apprendimento. Si è dunque proceduto alla stesura di un percorso formativo per l’insegnamento della lingua inglese che prevedesse l’impiego del cooperative learning: una strategia di insegnamento in cui assumono particolare importanza gli allievi e le loro risorse personali. Attraverso la cooperazione, i membri del gruppo, nel ricercare soluzioni a problemi comuni e nell’individuare percorsi ideali per raggiungere mete collettive, apprendono dal confronto, dallo scambio di opinioni, dall’impiego condiviso di conoscenze, competenze ed expertise personali.

The project has been created in the Province of Padua, where Synthesis is very active in the field of continuing education and consultancy to small and medium size businesses. Planning of the project was the result of a synergy of a pool of experts made up of professionals in the field of the methodologies and techniques of adult learning, experts in cooperative learning, teachers of English and professionals in educational management and coordination. The use of the strategy of cooperative learning has facilitated the students’ initial approach to English. Cooperation between members of the group has made it possible to find solutions to shared problems in order to achieve the planned objectives. The personal resources offered by the students’ different professional backgrounds have played an important part in creating interaction, mutual respect and the use of different styles of learning and, lastly, have enhanced their curiosity, their open-mindedness and their will to learn. English thus becomes not merely a work necessity but a broadening and enhancement of linguistic competence and powers of communication.
