sintesi italiano

“English on the move for key people – Indesit Company” nasce dall’esigenza di creare un percorso didattico per l’apprendimento della lingua inglese innovativo in luogo del comune corso di formazione aziendale. E’ rivolto a manager “on the move”, in continuo movimento.

sintesi inglese

English on the move for key people – Indesit Company, has arisen in response to the need for a teaching approach that would provide an innovative method of learning the English language to replace the commonly used company training format. This new course is specifically designed for the manager “on the move”. Hence, the main feature of the project is flexibility in terms of time schedules and course format; managers can actively participate without interfering with their regular work activities and can engage in the course activities and tasks even when they are out of town or travelling abroad on business. The project was designed and created as a joint effort between: The Victoria Company based in Jesi (AN) – the first language school of the Marche region certified by AISLi (Associazione Italiana Scuole di Lingue), the Italian Association of Language Schools, with official recognition by the Marche Region for conducting activities relating to professional training and orientation in the categories of Higher and Continuing Education and Training; having earned the Ministry of Education recognition, Presa D’Atto Ministeriale in 2003; and becoming a General Support Centre for international certification examinations of Trinity College London, with the contribution of the Director of Studies, Janet Wightman and the Managing Director, Giuseppe Romagnoli and Indesit Company S.p.A. based in Fabriano (AN) represented by the HR Development Communication & Services Director, Dr. Giuliano Calza. The project consisted of putting together a language training package tailored to the needs of key people at Indesit Company which would include innovative elements in the implementation process, in the didactic methodology and in the educational product. It has received a high degree of consensus and positive feedback, both from the course participants and from top management at Indesit Company. In particular, the course has introduced a new approach to the process of improving key competencies, such as language skills, by fostering the vertical development of knowledge useful for the attainment of professional objectives that are more in line with the demands of the Group. Thus, the English language teaching method is reinterpreted in a different key, where the learner, whilst enjoying maximum flexibility, is constantly in contact with the teacher, on a daily basis, and where the lesson is no longer limited to the classroom, and therefore, to the face-to-face approach, as the continuity between classroom activities and daily life is guaranteed through a series of personalised tasks designed to meet specific individual needs, in the form of: Interactive tasks, Phone tasks and E-mail tasks. The methodology that characterizes the project consists of utilizing diverse elements combined to form an integrated whole and features great program flexibility which can evolve and be modified according to the learner’s response to the instructor’s input. The student can enjoy a certain amount of autonomy in choosing the time of day to devote to the various tasks assigned that best suits his or her schedule. The course is not static in nature, but is in constant evolution. The activities undertaken throughout the learning path are broken down as follows: - face-to-face lessons with the teacher/tutor, following an individualized and flexible program; - mini-group lessons with the teacher and, at the higher levels, with the participation of guest lecturers who use the CLIL method; - e-mail tasks, in which each student follows a program designed by the Director of Studies to carry out a series of guided tasks targeted for the professional context which will vary from week to week and which must be completed by specific deadlines. The teacher/tutor then provides personalized feedback on the task assigned; - phone tasks, included in a program designed by the Director of Studies, in which the student carries out a series of oral tasks on the telephone, again targeted for the professional context which will vary from week to week. The teacher/tutor then provides personalized feedback on the task assigned; - interactive tasks, in which the student is assigned a password to access the e-learning platform provided by AISLi - Macmillan English Campus (MEC) for work online. The AISLi - MEC password also includes teacher monitoring of the students to track their progress. Feedback is provided on the work done. The teacher’s approach is communicative and the use of IT tools is essential, as it permits daily contact with the student who is constantly on the move. The use of the CLIL methodology was fundamental in achieving the goal of complementing the students’ English language skills with a series of extremely important competencies; these additional facets help to round out the managerial figure, capable of operating in global context, who is aware of cultural differences and who can appreciate the importance of teamwork. The innovative contribution to the learning path can be summarized as follows: - creative use of human resources and of available tools to stimulate language learning (role-play, brainstorming, team building, use of cell phone, use of e-mail); - structure of the course - flexible timetable, complementarity and continuity of the various tasks, daily contact with the teacher, both face-to-face and also via e-mail and/or cellular phone. The student does not need to interrupt his/her daily work routine; - Guests from various EU nations. Thanks to their specific cultural and professional backgrounds, the guest lecturers were able to reproduce realistic situations encountered in the day-to-day business life of the participants, through the use of role-play, situational techniques, presentations, brainstorming activities, commercial transactions and interviews; activities could be held simultaneously in different facilities (in Fabriano and in Milan) and the teaching modules were highly personalized; - integrated use of teaching methodologies, including face-to-face, group and technological tools, thus making it possible for the student to participate with great flexibility, even when out of town or traveling abroad on business. The personalized feature of the project is without a doubt the most innovative element. The project was created ad hoc for each manager. The personalization does not refer solely to the teaching program, but also to the future role the course participant could play within the company. The tailor-made feature is closely linked to the amount of time each student has to dedicate to the tasks assigned; hence, the need for and the importance of the flexibility factor. This facet of the program is particularly innovative as it allows the student to organize his/her work schedule in such a way as to guarantee daily contact with the teacher/tutor and yet not interfere with business engagements. The required daily commitment that lends continuity and effectiveness to the project, in combination with the strictly interrelated, work context-bound activities proposed, creates a totally innovative mix for a leading edge product that by far surpasses any of the standard courses commonly proposed by other language schools. In order to promote and highlight the project, as well as ensure that best practices are shared with other geographical areas and extended to other languages, the School has illustrated the project to all of the Italian schools who are members of AISLi (Associazione Nazionale Scuole di Lingue). The way the project is set up makes it possible to implement it for any language, in any context.
