Il termine “ABC” designa il bagaglio di nozioni elementari di una disciplina o di un’attività professionale e sottolinea il ruolo giocato dalla lingua come veicolo di trasmissione dei saperi e come strumento di comunicazione tra le persone, sia all’interno dell’odierno cantiere multilingue che dello spazio geografico europeo. Il progetto “ABC dell’Edilizia”, destinato ad apprendisti e allievi delle scuole edili europee, ha permesso di sviluppare un sistema interattivo multimediale per la preparazione linguistica di giovani in formazione nel settore delle costruzioni, nonché lo sviluppo e l’adattamento di un manuale di alfabetizzazione linguistico-tecnica denominato “L’ABC DELL’EDILIZIA”.

The project entitled “The ABC of Construction” has contributed to the development of an interactive multimedia system for the language preparation of young people being trained in the construction sector. The multimedia package, consisting of an interactive CD-ROM in 5 languages, a handbook for the tutor/teacher and an instruction manual, is a tool based on language skills considered as a key skill in the training pathway. The CD is structured in three sections: a basic-language course, a technical-language skill-providing course, and a section dedicated to communications and business management. The project aims at providing support to an expanding sector and to promote the traditional trades, though not ones that are secondary and technologically backwards. Language learning has likewise become indispensable in this work environment where construction sites are often multilingual and multicultural. The entire multimedia product, thanks to the construction has been distributed throughout Italy and abroad as a tool of language intermediation and as a support to the profession of the workers in this sector.
