Il progetto si colloca in Provincia di Belluno, un territorio montagnoso con scarse risorse naturali, che ha favorito nel passato dal 1860 in poi con fasi alterne, il fenomeno dell’emigrazione fino agli anni ‘50-’60. Dopo l’esame di una vasta documentazione sull’argomento dell’emigrazione, si è giunti a un progetto incentrato sui bisogni personali e sui nuovi scenari che si prospettano per i discendenti degli emigrati di un tempo in termini di conoscenza, verifica e, in qualche caso, rientro in patria. L’idea originaria è nata soprattutto per cercare di essere utili a un bisogno manifestato da discendenti di emigrati di terza, quarta e quinta generazione, che vogliono recuperare i valori delle proprie radici attraverso la lingua dei nonni.

The project takes place in the Province of Belluno, a mountain region with few natural resources, and which in the past has experienced emigration, above all to Latin America. The original idea was intended above all to meet the needs expressed by the descendents of third, fourth and fifth generation emigrants. The first to express the wish to learn were the children of emigrants from Belluno, who came to attend Italian language courses, also explaining their motivations. The “Marco Polo” school has met this need, together with the “Bellunesi nel mondo” Association. The objectives of the project were to provide information on the current situation in the land of their ancestors, Belluno, as well as in Italy, and to extend their language skills, from the Veneto dialect to Italian, in a period of 3 months. It was thus possible to enable people to learn the language of their fathers and to recover the cultural identity of their roots.
