Have you worked out a really innovative project for language teaching and learning? Take part to the European Languages Label, the initiative set by the European Commission.

The European Language Label awards, every year at national level, the most innovative projects in the field of language teaching and learning within the vocational training area;

It is a quality label allowing you to open a window into Europe

The European Language Label is an initiative promoted and coordinated by the European Commission, managed, on a decentralized basis, by the two National Agencies responsible for the implementation of the Lifelong Learning Programme 2007-2013 (LLP). In Italy, the National Authorities for LLP are:

the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies
the Ministry of Education, University and Research.
The competences and tasks for the management and counseling are divided into two different areas (vocational training and education) and managed by two Italian LLP National Agencies:

LLP National Agency – Sectoral Programme Leonardo da Vinci (Rome) for the vocational training area
LLP National Agency –Sectoral Programmes Comenius, Erasmus, Grundtvig and Preparatory Visits (Florence) for the education area.

The European Language Label aims at fostering language competences of the European citizens by awarding particularly innovative projects in the field of language teaching and learning.

The main goals, defined at European level, are:
to encourage new initiatives in the field of language teaching and learning;
to reward new techniques and methods in teaching, assessment, recognition and validation of language competences;
to disseminate innovative projects in Italy and Europe;
to raise the standards of language learning in Europe

For the vocational training area the European Language Label is open to:
training institutions from local and regional bodies, trade unions and employers’ associations (including chambers of commerce);
vocational training centres;
language schools;
research centres;
enterprises (particularly SMEs);
universities and schools (only for projects strictly focused on vocationally oriented language and aimed at integration or re-integration into the labour market);
non-profit organisations, voluntary bodies and NGOs;
cultural associations.

comprehensive approach to meet the needs of students
added value in the national context, either in terms of quantity (by stimulating the learning of several languages, particularly those less widely used) or quality (by introducing improved methodologies)
motivation of students, teachers and trainers
originality and creativity through the introduction of previously unknown approaches to language learning
European emphasis with a specific focus on understanding between cultures and linguistic diversity
transferability of outcomes and best practices towards different languages and countries

In each Member State the European Language Label is awarded by an Evaluation Committee. The task of the Committee is to select projects according to their suitability to the requirements set at European level and to the European priorities; each country may envisage additional criteria or specific priorities for the selection procedure.

In Italy, there are two different Evaluation Committees for the selection of projects referred to the vocational area and to the educational one.

The Evaluation Committees are composed by experts of the vocational and educational area, representatives of the Foreign Cultural Institutes, language trainers and/or teachers, representatives of the LLP National Agencies.

The European Language Label is not a financial grant but a quality label recognised at European level. It is an opportunity to give value to the experiences and results achieved within the field of language teaching and learning.

All the projects awarded with the European Language Label will receive a certificate signed by the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Youth and Sport and by the LLP National Authorities (Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and Ministry of Education, University and Research).

The European Language Label is recognised all over Europe and winners can use the Label logo within their premises, on the promoting material and products concerning the project awarded.
